The relationship between psychobiological dimensions of personality and internet gaming disorder: the role of positive and negative affects

Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is an important issue that was included as a tentative in the DSM-5. The aim of present study to contribute increasing understanding IGD by examining indirect relationships between psychobiological components personality, positive and negative affect, among sample Iranian university students. In cross-sectional study, 481 students (50.3% female; Mage = 22.41 years [SD 4.62]) were recruited from four universities completed self-report psychometric scales, including Gaming Disorder Scale (IGDS), Temperament Character Inventory (TCI), Positive Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Structural equation modeling used empirically explore relationships. model affect being mediator personality fit data. Individuals with higher levels had (r 0.60, p < 0.001). Furthermore, bootstrapping results showed affected via affect. Findings demonstrated mediated temperament dimensions harm avoidance (? .126), reward dependence .054), persistence ?.127), well character cooperativeness ?.047), self-directedness ?.042) (all p-values <0.001). knowledge field, support proposed models showing appears have role IGD.
